REVIEW: Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-on Cream Makeup

I'm going old school today & talking about a foundation that was really popular about 10 years ago! It is Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-on Cream Make-up. I used to wear this a lot when I was younger and I recently bought one again kind of out of curiosity and also because I thought the compact would be handy for travelling with only hand luggage. For €33 you get 23g of product so it's not the cheapest foundation, but not too extravagant either. I also noticed on the back of the compact that it is suitable for use for 36 months after opening, which I found very strange because most foundations would only be fresh for 12 months. Maybe this is because it is a cream product, rather than a liquid. The packaging has improved significantly since I last bought it & looks quite glam compared to the old black packaging!

Don't let the "Sponge-on" part of the title put you off immediately because I find that this foundation applies beautifully with a stippling brush. Of course, if you want a very full finish, you might prefer to use the sponge but that is not my personal preferred look. Once my skin is well moisturised and primed, this foundation does live up to its name of flawless finish. It glides across pores & fine lines and applies very evenly. It doesn't cling to any dry patches but I find it needed a little touching up after about 5 hours of wear, which isn't too bad.

If you like a very light, natural look or have very oily skin, this is not the foundation for you. Due to the creaminess of this foundation, it is perfect for normal, dry and even combination skin types, once powdered. This used to be my go-to foundation and whilst it won't be that for me again (I favour a lighter base these days), I am glad to have it back in my collection for days when I need to do my make-up in a rush & need an extra bit of coverage.

Have you used this foundation? Anybody remember the days when you would stock up in the airport because they were 2 for €20 or something like that?!

  1. I've never tried a cream foundation and this one sounds really interesting! I would probably use it with a brush like you do rather than with a sponge though... Great review <3

  8. It's certainly different to regular foundations but doesn't look as heavy as the cream in the name suggests once applied with a brush! xx
