I very rarely post anything personal on here but thought it was about time that changed (only 2 years after starting the blog but you know - better late than never!). I thought a good place to start would be to share some random facts about me, so let's get started!
1. My name is Siobhán and it really bloody irritates me when I am filling in forms online and they say that it is an invalid name or that it shouldn't contain any special characters because it doesn't recognise the fada (accent over the 'a')!!! Yes it is a valid name & it SHOULD contain a special character so, just do one!!!
2. I have 3 gold medals; for art, singing & football - the ironic thing is I couldn't draw a straight line, I sing like Cameron Diaz in My Best Friends Wedding & I couldn't score a penalty even if there was no goalkeeper! How I got the medals, I'll never know!
3. It's my birthday today, which makes me a Leo! I love my birthday being on the 8th day of the 8th month because 8 is my favourite number - turn it on its side & you have the infinity symbol!
4. You know the episode of Friends where Joey's date steals his chips & he gets the rage? Well that's me (according to my Hubby anyway!). I'm not quite as bad as Joey as in I will share some food, but not my chips! Do not touch my chips!!
5. Speaking of food, I absolutely love chocolate - not fancy, luxury brands - plain old Cadbury is my favourite!
6. I'm a total cat lady & love nothing more than to hear one of my cats purr and know they are happy! I like dogs but am afraid of them because I was bitten twice when I was younger and the fear never left me - my hearts starts to race & I get very panicky if one comes near me!
7. I studied at Trinity College in Dublin and also got married there! If you ever visit Dublin, I highly recommend spending a few hours wandering around the campus because it is so beautiful, steeped in history and you really wouldn't know that you are in the centre of a capital city - it is a haven from the hustle and bustle!
8. I don't have any children (yet, I still hope to!) but my 5 nephews and 2 nieces are the apples of my eye and I really enjoy their company and spending lots of time with them.
9. The thinking behind my blog name comes from Trinidad slang for hanging out to chat - they say that is to "Lime" so Beautylymin is a play on that because I knew I wanted to chat about beauty, but also some Lyme topics as I have Chronic Lyme so I put it all together as Beautylymin. My husband is half-Trinidadian and we got engaged over there so using Trinidad slang isn't totally random!
10. Reality TV is my guilty pleasure - Big Brother, Ex on The Beach, The Hills, First Dates, I'm a Celeb - I love them all!
11. My most embarrassing moment still makes me cringe when I think of it - I had a local anaesthetic for a test and when I came round, I was woozy and I can remember the nurses laughing because I kept saying that the surgeon (who was still in the room) was a total ride! A ride is Irish slang for somebody who is very good looking/that you fancy - which would be embarrassing enough if he was a McDreamy or even Nate in Home & Away, but no, he was nothing like either of them and what made it worse was I had to have a follow up appointment a few weeks later and I kept getting flashbacks of me calling him a ride!! Needless to say, I didn't take in any of my results!
12. My nephew used to think that I was engaged to Robbie Williams because I was a huge fan & told him that I loved Robbie. When he met my fiancé, he told me that he was better than Robbie Williams - praise indeed!
13. I am a Tottenham Hotspur fan by proxy! My husband is a huge Spurs fan and we enjoy going over to London to see a match whenever we can. We didn't get to go last season but hope to go before Christmas this year and we usually combine it with a visit to some of my husband's family.
14. I've always been teased in my family for my love of luxury - I would much prefer a 2 night break somewhere nice than 2 weeks backpacking or roughing it! I can totally see why people would prefer a longer break by staying in a less fancy place but it just isn't for me - I need my comforts!
15. I love to bake! It started when I was a child and Mam & I used to bake every Saturday - I baked my first Victoria Sponge all by myself at 5, having helped my mother weekly previously, and it's still one of my favourites - a total classic!
16. Going to the cinema is one of my favourite ways to relax and just switch off from everything. I really get immersed in whatever film I am watching and love being in that other world for a couple of hours. Luckily, my husband is a big cinema fan too!
17. I'm Irish and extremely proud of it. I love the landscape, the people, the humour and the culture. If you haven't visited yet, then you need to add it to your bucket list because there is nowhere quite like it (just be sure to pack an umbrella!).
18. I'm an inherently positive person and have always loved that about myself. I have always believed that anything is possible and that has stood me in good stead all of my life, but especially in the years since I became ill.
19. I don't have any tattoos and can't see myself ever getting one but I do have 7 piercings - all in my ears!
20. My death row meal would be Deep Fried Brie to start, Fillet Steak (medium) with home made chips, onions, mushrooms and pepper sauce for main and Pavlova with raspberries and strawberries for dessert - YUM!!
Very random facts, but I hope you've learned something about me! I would love to hear some facts about you! Do we have any similar traits? What has been your most embarrassing moment? Please tell me in the comments below!
