This set was kindly gifted to me. |
Last week, I was lucky enough to receive two festive products - this Drunk Elephant Firmy The Day Kit* and an advent calendar, which I will review in the coming weeks. People may say that it's too early for anything to do with Christmas, but I think that this year, more than ever, we need the fun, festivities and frivolity that Christmas brings. As I said on Instagram, I am cognizant of the fact that there will be many tables around the country (and the world), with an empty space, or maybe even more than one, due to the pandemic and more, so please don't think that I am crass when I post about anything festive, but there have been times over this year, where I felt that my house might be one of those, so I am going to embrace everything Christmassy and as I told my mother, I'm going bigger and better than ever before, which she didn't think was possible, given that I am a huge Christmas fan as it is! Basically, I'm saying that I don't think we should judge others for celebrating any occasion to the max - it's been a tough year for all of us!
Drunk Elephant release brilliant sets every year that cost very little more than the one large product it contains, so they are good value and a great way to try a few more products from the brand, without spending too much. This year, they have all of the usual minis sets, plus Dewy: The Polypeptide Kit, Glowy: The Night Kit and Firmy: The Day Kit*, which I'm discussing today. All of these kits are currently available from Sephora, but are soon to come to this side of the Atlantic at Cult Beauty, so keep your eyes peeled on the new in section (one of my hobbies!).
I love the packaging - the paper sleeve around the box and plastic tray inside, are recyclable. The box that the products can be re-used to house products or store your favourite chocolates - who would think to look there?
Inside, the main product is a full size bottle of C-Firma™ Day Serum, which is a potent Vitamin C serum, which I have used before and found it to be particularly effective for areas of pigmentation, to achieve an overall even look to the skin and firmer skin, due to it helping with collagen production. It contains Vitamin C in the form of L-Ascorbic, which if you are new to Vitamin C, you may not be able to use on a daily basis but you can work your way up to it. Vitamin C products are notorious for oxidising but you can actually keep this one in the fridge (if you have one of those skincare fridges that are all over Instagram!). Through experience, I have found that it is best to only have one Vitamin C serum open at a time and to use daily, if possible. This particular one should last 6 months, once opened so even if your skin is sensitive and you can only start with maybe 2/3 times weekly, you should use it within the 6 months.
The minis are pretty generous in size at either 15 or 8ml each. The 8mls are B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Serum (which I personally don't find hydrating but I know a lot of people swear by it so if your skin isn't like the Sahara, you will probably love it) and D-Bronzi™Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops. These drops can be added to your serum or moisturiser to add some glow and colour - if you have tanned your face and neck, but not your chest, these drops work well to even things out if you're wearing a top that will show that area. The anti-pollution in the name refers to the antioxidants in the product, which will protect your skin.
The two 15ml products are Protini™ Polypeptide Cream, which I reviewed here. I love the light texture, yet it really nourishes my skin and is packed with 9 peptides and other collagen stimulating ingredients to leave the skin feeling bouncy and looking bright. The other 15 ml product is Umbre Tinte™ Physical Daily Defense SPF30, which is a broad spectrum that layers well with other products - something that not all SPFs do.
The bonus product is a compact mirror, which is in bright pink - right up my street and will be easy to locate inside a bag. Overall, I think this is a great set and I love that there are so many extra products for only a few $/£ more than the serum alone. These sets tend to sell out very quickly, so if you, or someone you are buying a gift for who is a fan of this brand, would like this set, I would act fast when they are released. I am very tempted to buy the other two as I've yet to find a retinol to match A-Passioni. I'd love if they released some hair or body care sets too!
Are you a fan of skincare sets at Christmas or do you prefer makeup?
