My regular readers will know that I am a fragrance addict & wear it daily - even when I lost my sense of smell, or if I'm having a duvet or pyjama day. Wearing a beautiful fragrance really lifts my spirits and I like to know that I smell good. My love of perfume started when I was very young and I used to gather flowers from the garden & try to create my own scents! My mother is also a fragrance addict, so I can say that it's in the genes! Today, I want to share my top summer picks (although I will undoubtedly wear others too), which may serve as some inspiration if you are looking for a new summer perfume...
Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess: Nothing ground-breaking here, I know, but this really is a classic summer fragrance (which I reviewed in conjunction with the night version here). If you like a warm, coconutty, amber, vanilla scent that will remind you of sun cream/after sun, pina coladas at sundown, then you will adore this fragrance! It's a cult product that has been around for years and it almost feels like it wouldn't be summer without a bottle of this! Tom Ford Eau De Soleil Eau De Toilette Spray: If you've tried Bronze Goddess and find that the coconut notes are a little too strong for your taste, then you might enjoy this similar, but more subtle, alternative. This is the lighter version of Soleil Blanc, if you are familiar with the original. This one has notes of citrus, in the form of bergamot, petitgrain and orange, blended with warmer notes of amber and pistachio. It instantly makes me think of a beautiful, sandy beach on a sunny day, which in turn makes me smile. I love the frosted glass bottle with gold detailing. Again, the BEAUTYLYMIN code works on this!
Jo Loves Mango Thai Lime: Completely different from the previous two fragrances, this one also really screams summer, due to the fruity mango, which is balanced by the zesty lime. There is also some black pepper and mint in there, to create a fragrance that makes me think of holidays in the Caribbean - in fact, the very first time I sprayed it, my husband had a flashback to his childhood holidays in Trinidad, eating fresh mango, picked straight from the tree, in the summer afternoons. If you don't like sweet scents, I would still urge you to give it a go because of the balanced blend of notes, and it isn't sickly sweet. Plus, it smells authentic.
Maison Margiela Replica Sailing Day: If aquatic scents are more your thing in summer, then I'd highly recommend checking out, as it makes me think of boat trips on summer holidays - fresh, invigorating, and makes you feel more alive and awake! It's woody, salty, a little warm yet very fresh and makes you feel like you belong on a yacht with the wind in your hair!
Armani Sí Passione Éclat De Parfum*:On a completely different note (if you'll pardon the pun!), this fragrance is feminine, yet not girly - it's a fragrance that makes you feel in control of your day (if that makes sense?!). It's both floral and fruity, with notes of rose and blackcurrant, but neither dominates, as they are also blended with musk and vanilla. It feels clean, fresh, feminine and sophisticated. Not necessarily just a summer fragrance, but one that will work all year round.
Dior Joy*: The name of this fragrance couldn't be more appropriate! It instantly brightens my day when I wear it! It is citrusy, woody, lightly floral, but also musky and almost what I'd describe as fizzy - a glass of pink champagne for the skin, yet the dry down is soft & powdery! The bottle is so pretty and is a great addition to any dressing table.
Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt: Finally, a long-term love (well, for around 6/7 years now, it's been a constant in my stash). This may sound strange, but it really reminds me of the seaside, rather than the beach! When we were younger, we would often drive to the coast, which was around 30 minutes away, and whilst some were sandy beaches, others were more a case of a rocky shoreline with some sand, so that's how I differentiate the beach from the seaside. It probably doesn't make sense to others, but this fragrance really brings me back to those days - fresh, crisp air that you could smell the salt from the water. I love that it has woody notes too, as it makes it different from other aquatic scents. It's a subtle fragrance, yet one that I always, always receive compliments on and a great choice for those who don't like typical summer fragrances.
Do you have any of these in your collection? I'd love to hear which fragrances you love to wear in summer, or are you a classic signature scent type of person?
