The Clarins Hydra-Essentiel range has had a revamp and there are now seven options to choose from; - six for the day time, depending on your skin type and a new night cream. This range is made from almost 90% ingredients of natural origin. The glass jars are made from 40% recycled glass and 90% of the packaging is fully recyclable. Clarins is a brand that is almost 70 years old, but it is constantly working towards biodiversity as well as using the latest science and technology to produce more and more effective products. Late last year, I reviewed the newly reformulated Beauty Flash Balm and it certainly did not disappoint (post here). I was very kindly sent five of the new products to try and want to share my thoughts with you today.
This newly reformulated range of products is aimed at all skin types. Some people think that if you have oily skin, you don't need hydrating products in your regime, but your skin can be both oily and dehydrated. It can also be dehydrated and dry. Oily or dry is a skin type, but dehydration is a skin condition, which can be treated by using the right products, which is where this line comes into play.
The range combines Hyaluronic Acid in both high and low molecular weights, which means that it will help the skin to appear plump and soft on the surface level, but will also penetrate the skin in order to retain hydration. The products also contains organic leaf of life extract, which helps to stimulate the production of hyaluronic acid in the skin, which will help it to retain more water.
The options for daytime use are: Silky Cream, which is best suited to both normal and dry skin types. It lives up to the silky in its name due to its texture - silky, which absorbs instantly and leaves skin feeling soft and plump. It layers well with other products without pilling and leaves the skin looking healthy but neither matte nor dewy.
The next option is Light Cream, which is suitable for all skin types. The texture is a little lighter than the silky cream, however it's very emollient, which is in contradiction to the matte finish that it gives. That being said it doesn't have an astringent feel or make skin look or feel very dry, or highlight fine lines. It just feels comfortable and is a good all-rounder.
For some added protection, Day Cream with SPF 15 provides hydration as well as protecting from UV rays and free radicals. It has a similar texture to the Silky Cream and instantly melts into the skin, leaving it feeling and looking plump and juicy. It's aimed at normal to dry skin.
For those who prefer a gel moisturiser, Matte Gel is ideal. This is aimed at normal and combination skin types and would be ideal for those who have oily but dehydrated skin because it hydrates but the texture is perfect for those who find creams to be a little too rich. It also mattifies the skin and would be the ideal product to use under makeup.
I don't have the Emulsion, however it sounds great for those who prefer a liquid texture, as opposed to cream and is suitable for all skin types.
Finally, there is the Night Cream, suited to all skin types. It's a rich cream (which I personally love at night), but it layers well over serums and doesn't pill. It takes a little while to absorb into the skin, but I personally don't mind that in the evening as I love my night time skincare routine - it really is a time that I enjoy and I like to take my time with it. It doesn't just sit on the skin though and when it absorbs, my skin feels super nourished, plus I love that I wake up to comfortable and plump skin, which isn't always the case with my dry and dehydrated skin.
The price range for these products is £24-40, which I personally think is very reasonable given the results - they are comparable to moisturisers twice or three times that price. Overall, the range has really impressed me and I love that there is an option for all skin types.
