I don't want to bore you with the "where is the year going" line but seriously, this year seems to be flying by faster than so many other recent years! I like to do a mid-year check-in in lots of areas of my life and my beauty discoveries is one of them. I certainly don't shop as much as I used to when I first started blogging, or even during the pandemic when I shopped when bored and ill! I like to think that I'm much more refined and controlled in terms of my beauty buying these days! I have made some great beauty discoveries in the first half of the year - they're not necessarily new to the market products, but new to me. Let's get into it!
These are in no particular order, just my favourite discoveries that I either have repurchased already or will do when I finish these.
StriVectin Crepe Control Hand Cream: I use hand cream several times a day and have them in handbags, bedside locker, beside the sinks - everywhere, basically! I have used so many different brands but this one has gone straight to the top of my favourite hand creams ever! My skin is dry all over and I feel that because I wash my hands so often, combined with the fact that I didn't use SPF on them regularly for years, my hands can look very dry and crepey, which I don't like. When I came across this hand cream, which is targeted at crepey skin on hands, promising to brighten and firm, I had to buy it and have since repurchased 5/6 tubes. It immediately nourishes the skin, making it look plumper and firmer and it does so without leaving any film or greasy residue, which is a pet peeve of mine. I just adore the texture and the fact that it makes my hands look younger in an instant! Keep an eye on the Boots website for its Tuesday offers as I've bought it there when it's been on offer a couple of times.
YSL Loveshine Plumping Lip Oil: I love a glossy lip and I love to keep my lips hydrated so it was inevitable that I would buy one of these lip oils and then I loved it so much that I bought a second one! These oils are super hydrating, non-sticky, plumping (with a mild tingle) and add a hint of colour. They're the perfect everyday lip product or lip topper.
Laura Mercier Blurring Translucent Powder: I'm not the hugest powder fan due to having dry skin but I do like how polished skin can look sometimes with the right powder in the right places. I was delighted to see a mini version of this powder available and I have been really loving it. I pat it gently into the skin with a powder puff, using only a minimal amount. I find that it really does have a blurring effect, making my pores less visible. I don't use it all over my face and haven't found it to cake at all but I do use a setting spray afterwards. My makeup doesn't budge when I use this and it doesn't necessarily look powdered - just polished, which is what I want to achieve.
Vieve Super Skin Nova: I love how a little goes a long way with this product, which makes it great value. Essentially it is a nourishing/plumping primer but I love to wear it on no makeup days too. It adds some glow to the skin but not too much - it just helps the skin to look healthy, radiant and plump.
Champo Pitta Growth Serum: I think I may have originally purchased a bottle of this serum last year, but I didn't commit to absolutely consistent use until this year and then repurchased twice! As I have mentioned before on the blog, I have lost a lot of hair through illness over the years with the most recent loss happening when I started my new medical treatment late last year. I used other serums but early this year, committed to using a few drops of this serum daily. It isn't greasy, which makes it suitable for everyday use. I apply around 3 drops to my scalp and massage in with my fingers. I do this as part of my nightly routine, which means that I won't forget. It took around 8 weeks to see some initial growth and it has continued since then. My hairdresser has noticed a big difference in my hair and the new hair around the front of my hair is almost the length of a fringe now. I'm absolutely delighted with the results and will continue to use!
Dior Forever Glow Star Filter: This product gives a bit more glow that Super Skin Nova but still nowhere near the sweaty skin/discoball effect that some 'glow' products give. It blurs pores and has the tiniest bit of coverage. It boosts the luminosity of a foundation if mixed with one, adds glow on no makeup days and works very well as a primer on my dry skin. A few dabs would also work well as a natural highlighter. It's a firm favourite in my collection.
Oskia Midnight Elixir: I won't sugarcoat it, this is an expensive product but unlike most serums, it contains 50ml of product rather than the usual 30ml. It's also a very effective, results-focused product, created for those of us who are seeing signs of ageing (remember that ageing is a privilege not guaranteed to all, so I am not anti-ageing but I'd like to keep my skin looking as fresh as possible for as long as possible). This serum is used at night (as the name suggests), it contains a blend of growth factors (which encourage skin regeneration and collagen production), peptides (which help to plump and smooth the skin) and Vitamin C (which helps to brighten the skin and provides anti-oxidant protection). It has a deliciously smooth and silky texture, which absorbs into the skin well and layers beautifully with other products. It can be used nightly (not on the same night as retinol) and the result with consistent use is bright, firm and supple skin. It really is worth the money for me!
Dior Forever Skin Perfect Foundation: If you like long-wearing foundation that blurs and has buildable coverage but doesn't sink into fine lines, this is a product that you will love! I have a full review of this coming soon but suffice it to say, this has been hyped in the beauty community for a reason!
Have you made any great beauty discoveries this year? I'd love to hear!
