Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation - where have you been all my life?

Shiseido Summer Essentials Review

Ok, I know that the title of this post may seem a little dramatic but I have found a new love/firm favourite in Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation.  I was kindly sent some of their summer essentials products and this is the stand out product for me.  I've been especially impressed by the WetForce Technology™ that they use - the products are so waterproof that if you apply to your hand and then run it under the tap the water droplets will run off your hand, leaving the product in tact and then if you dab a tissue over the area, there is no transfer. This is pretty unique - I've never seen anything like it! While I don't have their sunscreen products, I have some products from the makeup line to share my thoughts on.

UV Protective Liquid Foundation: I have to start with my favourite product! This foundation is very watery in texture so I personally wouldn't apply it directly to my face like you see on Instagram (why is dripping products on to your face such a craze on Instagram?!), I think it's best to dispense a small amount on to your hand and then dab on to the face before buffing in. There is a sponge in a small plastic box with the foundation but I prefer to either use my fingers to apply or a buffing brush. The coverage is a solid medium but buildable to pretty full. The finish is slightly dewy but doesn't look greasy, in fact, the finish looks very natural. What I love most about this foundation is that it makes the skin look smooth and, dare I say it, flawless. I don't think that we should get hung up on looking perfect and flawless (what even is that, anyway?), however for those of us with textured or porous skin, a product that creates a smooth even base is a dream. It doesn't sink into fine lines or cling to any dry patches. It is formulated with hyaluronic acid, glycerin and Aquainpool, all of which help to hydrate and plump dry skin - hence it is a dream product for me. I find that it doesn't need any touch ups throughout the day and looks pretty much perfect when I remove it around 9/10 hours after application. I really wish I had known about this foundation when I was in Florida a few years ago because it would work so well in humid climates due to being extremely water-resistant. It's so lightweight that it doesn't feel like you're wearing a base product, yet the coverage is excellent. It also contains SPF 30. I have received so many compliments when wearing this foundation and have been told I look so 'well' which is hilarious given how ill I've been! I honestly cannot rave about this foundation enough and it will be a definite repurchase.

UV Protective Compact Foundation: The previous foundation is most suited to dry skin, whereas this one is most suited to oily, or possibly combination, skin. Inside the sturdy plastic compact is a sponge in the top layer of the product and underneath is the powder itself and a mirror. This has the same WetForce Technology™ as the liquid foundation, making it waterproof and sweatproof. It has a matte finish but it still looks pretty natural. For me, this would be a finishing powder or one to pop in my handbag for touch ups in extremely humid weather but as my skin is so dry, a powder foundation will never be a good pick for me.

UV Lip Colour Splash:  This is available in two shades and I have Tahiti Blow. Initially, I was thinking that a blue lip would never be a good idea, however it actually applies almost clear so it's perfect worn on its own or over other lip products that don't offer any sun protection (this offers SPF30). I like that it's non-sticky, feels comfortable on the lips and the applicator is shaped for a quick and easy application. It really does nourish the lips and doesn't affect any lipstick that you might apply underneath. It is also available in Uluru Red, if you'd prefer to just use one product but have some colour on your lips.

Clear Stick UV Protector: I had never really thought about using a stick SPF before now but I know that my nephew has one in his bag when he goes to camps and football training for top ups. The convenience of the stick means he will use it whereas he probably wouldn't bother topping up with a liquid. This stick offers SPF 50+. It can be used anywhere on the face and body, both under and over makeup. Now I had never thought of using anything other than a mist to top up my SPF when wearing makeup but I have tried this and it works well over my base products.  I focus on the high points on my face - forehead, cheekbones and nose. It's a perfect handbag size and would be ideal to bring to festivals or for long days out. It has a very light, pleasant scent - almost like fruit sweets but it is subtle.  I can definitely see now how a stick SPF would fit into your life.

Have you tried any Shiseido SPF products? Do you like the sound of any of these? I'd love to hear!

All of these products are available from Arnotts, which now ships throughout the UK & Europe as well as Ireland but I have also linked to Look Fantastic and they are available in pharmacies too.
