I think that most people tend to go lighter with their base in the warmer months and as we age, lighter bases and a good corrector/concealer are our best friends! Fuller coverage foundations tend to highlight any lines and texture that we might have on dry or mature skin. BB creams were the summer go-to product back in the day but over the past 2/3 years, skin tints have been in. These are more than a tinted moisturiser (which I personally am not a fan of) but don't claim to have skincare benefits as a main selling point. I have three great skin tints to share with you today.
Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint: This has the sheerest amount of coverage of the three tints in today's post. It works really well on dry skin due to its moisturising ingredients, which include squalane, meadowfoam seed oil and hyaluronic acid. The dewy finish is great for mature skin as it looks like your skin but healthier but the downside to this is that it probably wouldn't suit those with oily skin and if your skin is particularly textured, the finish may highlight this. For more coverage, I apply concealer first (on areas of redness or blemishes), then apply the skin tint and if a little more concealer is needed, it will layer well. I always finish with a little powder to ensure that it lasts on the skin. Best for mature, normal and dry skin. Available in 18 shades.
YSL Nu Bare Look Tint: This is another hydrating formula but it offers more coverage that the latter. The finish is natural - not overly dewy but not flat. The coverage is light but buildable, it blends seamlessly into the skin and is so lightweight that it doesn't feel like you're wearing anything. I find that this lasts well on my skin even without powder (I always use a setting spray). Suitable for all skin types. Available in 20 shades.
Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Gel Tint: As the name suggests, this has a gel texture, which enables it to blend effortlessly into the skin but it doesn't disappear - it gives a light coverage, which is buildable to medium with reapplication. The finish is very natural - certainly not matte nor it is as dewy as the Hourglass mentioned above, just very 'lit from within'. It's lightweight on the skin and feels hydrating but isn't slippy or greasy. It lasts really well on the skin and is the base I've been wearing non-stop over the past few weeks when the temperature has risen here in Ireland. It doesn't budge in the heat and doesn't highlight fine lines or texture - a dream product! Suitable for all skin types and is available in 15 shades.
Do you go lighter with your base products in summer? I'd love to hear your recommendations!
