Over the past year or so, I have seen and heard lots of people raving about the Dior Forever Skin Perfect Stick Foundation and although that's not usually my preferred foundation type ( I prefer a liquid), it just lived in my head rent-free and I had enough Boots points so I bought it! I'm not sure if Max Factor still sell Pan Stick, but that was something we all used back in the day and I can still remember the heavy, cloying feeling on the skin (maybe I just used too much!) and this put me off stick foundations for years. I do think I have probably tried a small number in the last twenty years, but generally I tend to steer clear - until now that is! So, how has this foundation worked out for me on my dry skin?
I'll preface this review with saying that, in general, I get on really well with Dior foundations. I find the shade match to be good for my skin and the finish usually lives up to the name. So, is this perfect skin in a stick as the name suggests?
There are only18 shades available in this foundation in cool, neutral and warm tones.
In my mind, stick foundations tend to be medium to full coverage, which is possibly one reason that I tend not to buy them because I personally like light to medium coverage but with this foundation, it's not necessarily the coverage that I notice when wearing it, it's more the blurring effect that it has. It seems to blur pores and hide any pigmentation but does so without feeling like I am wearing a lot of product. It's akin to wearing a filter on the skin! If full coverage is your thing, it's buildable without looking cakey.
The texture is quite creamy and easy to blend. I have tried both applying directly to my face and buffing in and also applying to the back of my hand and then buffing my brush into the product before applying to my face. I personally am happy with just applying to my face in stripes! Once it is buffed in, it sets down to a natural-matte finish and yet doesn't look flat. I personally don't find that it needs any powder but those with oily skin might.
It claims to offer 24 Hr Hydration, which might be a bit of a stretch but that being said, it doesn't feel heavy or drying on the skin. I'd never wear foundation for 24 hours so couldn't comment on that anyway! In terms of longevity, I find that it's pretty much budge-proof and doesn't really require any top ups throughout the day. I also haven't found it to settle into fine lines as the day goes on.
I have to say that I am mightily impressed by this foundation. It's not one that I would wear daily but I'm at home, if I was at work daily and needed my makeup to be quick to apply and last the duration, then this would definitely be a solid option. For nights out, it'd be perfection.
Are you a fan of stick foundations? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
