The best eyeshadows for those who normally avoid glitter

I think that glitter eyeshadow scares a lot of people over the age of 30 because unless you have crease-free firm lids, glitter can be quite unflattering. Also, back in the day, glitters were very irritating on the eyes as there was a lot of fallout but things have come a long way and glitters are no longer chunky and uncomfortable. Glitter is not something I would wear on a daily basis but when the occasion calls for it, I have some eyeshadows that I know I can depend on to flatter. Because the festive season is approaching, I thought it would be a good time to share them with you.

Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow: I adore this cream to powder formula - smooth with a micro glitter, it's easy to apply and long-lasting on the lids. The glitter catches the light but it isn't a very 'in your face' formula which makes it flattering for all ages. The shadow itself is pigmented  - one swipe is sufficient but it can be layered easily for more intensity.

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow: These are more intense than the Hourglass but the glitter particles are small so they don't cause any irritation in the eyes. The liquid formula is easy to apply and it sets quite quickly so you need to work fast. I find that these shadows are extremely long-lasting and crease-proof but they are also easy to remove. Trio available here.

Natasha Denona Crystal Chrome Top Coat: This product can be used alone as an eyeshadow or it can be used as a topper on the lids or lips. The glitter is extremely fine so if you are really scared of glitter, this would be a great starter as it really is micro in size. Again, it's a cream formula so it's very easy to work with and although I have heard some people say that these pots dry out, I haven't found that to be the case as long as you close the lid tightly.

Pat McGrath Mothership II Eyeshadow Palette: There are three glitters in this Pat McGrath palette and they are so easy to use because the texture of the shadows is so creamy. They apply and blend easily but they also stay put until they are removed. Pat McGrath shadows are second to none (which is absolutely expected given the price). They aren't sold individually but I'm hoping this is something she will consider doing in the future.

Urban Decay Diamond Dog: A stunning powder eyeshadow with a very sparkly but very fine glitter running through it. Pigmented and long-lasting, it's hard not to love this Urban Decay offering.

Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights: These are the most glittery of all of the shadows mentioned in this post but they are easy to work with and the formula is cooling on the lid, which makes them very comfortable. I don't experience any falldown with these and find that they work well both alone and as shadow toppers.

Coloured Raine Queen Of Hearts Palette: Another palette (currently reduced on Beauty Bay) but a lot more affordable than Pat McGrath. The texture of all of the shadows in this palette are beautiful but the glitters (micro glitter) are so buttery soft that they feel like a cream but apply like a powder. Intensely pigmented, easy to apply and long-lasting - what's not to love?
