REVIEW: Hourglass N° 28 Primer Serum

I am a sucker for anything that will either add hydration to my skin, or at least make it appear more hydrated so when I heard about Hourglass N° 28 Primer Serum, which is a primer and serum in one, I knew I had to try it. This is an expensive product so I took a chance asking my best friend to get it for me in the U.S. because I had never even tested it on my hand in a store. It is $65 for 1 oz/30 ml so it is probably the most expensive primer I have ever used. I was torn between this and the Mineral Veil Primer from the same brand, which a lot of people swear by but because this is aimed at hydration more than anything else, I decided to go for it because that is my main concern.

This product can be used in a number of ways: under moisturiser, after moisturiser and before foundation, as a stand alone night treatment or even as a split end treatment (I won't be wasting any of this precious product on my hair though!). I am going to use it primarily as a primer because I have other night treatments & serums for my skin. This primer contains 14 essential oils (lavender, geranium, rose geranium, vanilla, clove, orange peel, amyris, lemon peel, petitgrain, eucalyptus, rosemary leaf, bois de rose, cedar leaf, ylang ylang), 10 plant oils (jojoba, rose hips seed, evening primrose, hazelnut, borage seed, kukui nut, sweet almond, green tea, olive, and cherry pit) and 4 vitamins (A, B5, C and E). The combination of these are what makes this product so hydrating.

This primer is different from other primers I've used because it is not a cream product - it has a true oil/serum texture so I must admit that I did wonder how my foundation would last using this. It is a dream to apply to the skin and you really feel that you are giving your skin a treat and hydrating it, but you must wait a few minutes before applying foundation or it will just slide off. My skin feels supple when I use this product and my foundation just glides on. I have tried it with dewy foundation, satin, liquid, cream etc and every time, the same result - even, flawless, plump, hydrated, poreless, youthful looking skin.

I did wonder how well my foundation would last with this primer, given how hydrating it is and given its texture, but I need not have worried. The longest I have had my base on when using this was 10 hours on Easter Monday & it literally didn't budge and I didn't have any shine and no clinging to any dry patches that I sometimes have around my nose. Bear in mind that I have dry and dehydrated skin so this result might be different on other skin types.

Overall, I have no complaints at all about this product. I really, really love it and just wish it was a little more affordable!

Please tell me your favourite primer? Have you tried this or the Hourglass Mineral Veil primer?
