What I bought in New York!

I'm back! In case you didn't realise that I was away - I was in New York last week! It was our first visit but won't be our last because we loved every minute of our trip. I know that the first thing some people think of when you mention New York is shopping, but in all honesty we wanted to see and do as much as we could so we didn't spend a lot of time in the shops. On Wednesday there was a snow storm so we took that as a sign to indulge in some retail therapy in the morning as it was due to be a lot worse in the afternoon and we knew we'd need to be indoors then. Today, I want to show you the beauty bits that I bought - I didn't blitz Sephora as much as I did on my first visit to the U.S. two years ago because a lot of brands are more available to us on this side of the Atlantic than they were two years ago, but I did pick up some great bits!

Skincare: I actually didn't buy too much in terms of skincare because I'm really happy with my routine at the moment but I did pick up some minis. I've wanted to try some Drunk Elephant for a while but it's a pretty pricey range so I decided to buy some minis and I can decide from using those if I want to buy any full sizes. I bought the Rise + Glow Duo, which contains C Firma Day Serum and B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel and the NightBright Duo, which contains T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum and Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil. The last time I was in Sephora, I bought a mini bottle of Boscia MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil and I loved it, so I repurchased that and, also from Boscia, I bought Super-Cool De-Puffing Eye Balm because both my husband and I found that our eyes were a little puffy from the air conditioning in our room. This really works to cool, soothe and de-puff the under eye area, however it isn't hydrating in the slightest so I still needed to use a regular eye cream with it but it works well on its own for my husband so he'll continue to use it. I love Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist so I picked up a single of their Luminous Dewy Skin Mask, which I am really looking forward to using. I've wanted to try some Peter Thomas Roth masks for ages so when I saw this Meet Your Mask set that contained 6 minis, I had to buy it! Being the face mask addict that I am, I could leave it at that so I also bought Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, which I am really looking forward to using as I adore their lip mask.

Bodycare:

I ran out of body lotion when I was away so I bought Sephora Super Supreme Body Butter and Fresh Sugar Lemon Body Lotion. Both are really beautiful - they absorb quickly and really moisturise the skin without leaving it greasy. Both smell really fresh too so they're perfect for Spring! I adore the scent of the Sol De Janeiro Brazilian range so I had to pick up the mini body mist - I say mini but 90ml is pretty big for a mini! The pistachio scent just screams summer to me so I'll definitely bring this on holiday with me in June!

Perfume:

My husband & I like to buy fragrances for each other when we go on holiday to remind us of that trip, so he bought me the new Chloé fragrance - Nomade. I adore this perfume as it's quite unique - a mixture of fresh, musky and sweet. It's feminine and sophisticated and the bottle is simple and beautiful. It also came with a leather coin purse, embossed with the Chloé logo, which I love!

Makeup:

I had planned on buying the Natasha Denona Tropic palette because I adore the ones I already own from her but when I swatched it, I was disappointed by the lack of pigmentation and stiffness of some of the shadows - I can only assume that they have either changed the formula of the shadows or that there was a bad batch as that's what happened with the contour powders that were released last year (post here). Instead of the Tropic palette, I decided to buy another Pat McGrath palette as I love the one I have already (post here), so I bought the MTHRSHP Sublime Bronze Ambition Eyeshadow Palette, which contains 6 stunning, warm shades - I'll do a review with swatches soon! If you read my Marc Jacobs Brand Focus, you will know that I love the formula of the eyeshadows - that coupled with Sally's review (here) meant that Scandalust was on my 'to buy' list and it was the last one in the last Sephora I visited - the sales assistant said that they can't keep them in stock and that doesn't surprise me! The final palette that I bought is Too Faced Just Peachy Velvet Mattes  - when it was released I thought I might be able to resist as I have the original Peach palette but after reading Sal's post (here), I knew I had to have it! I used this the same day that I bought it and it is every bit as amazing as I had hoped and expected! Full review coming soon!

I bought 4 foundations but 3 were from the drugstore so they'll be at the end of the post, the only one I bought in Sephora is Too Faced Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation. We all know that I'm usually a dewy base fan but I have discovered a few demi matte bases in the last few months that I love so I thought I'd give this a go and so far, so good! Combined with the right primer, this works really well on my dry skin. Speaking of which, I repurchased Natasha Denona Face Glow Primer Hydrating Underbase as it's one of my favourite hydrating primers. My friend Shireen raved about Dr Brandt Pores No More Luminizer Primer (post here) so I knew that I had to buy it! I also bought a mini Smashbox Primerizer because I have wanted to try it for ages - all in all, I think I'm pretty set for primers for the next while! I also repurchased Nars Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base because it is, without doubt, the best eyeshadow primer for my watery eyes/oily lid combination!

I'm a huge Anastasia Beverly Hills fan and I had already purchased the new eyeshadow palette before going on holiday so I decided to buy their new highlighter and bronzer - both of which I love! I was raving about my Pat McGrath lipstick so much that my husband kindly treated me to another shade - Donatella, which is a beautiful nude. These lipsticks are luxury at its finest and if you ever get the chance to get your hands on one, you really should - everything from the packaging to the formula and pigmentation, is second to none! Finally, I had a tiny sample of Kat Von D Lock-It Makeup Setting Mist with me and it impressed me so much that I had to buy a full size. It literally does what it says on the tin - locks my makeup into place without mattifying or drying my skin.

Drugstore:

I did a 5 minute dash in CVS just before going to the airport and picked up mainly products that we can't get over here. The first one is L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation and the matching concealer. I also bought Maybelline Fit Me! Dewy & Smooth Foundation, which I have heard great things about and the final foundation I bought is one I already own but I needed it in a darker shade: Wet N Wild Photofocus foundation. Also from Wet N Wild, I bought a stunning highlighter, which I am loving so far. Finally, I bought a Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer because it's a product that I have seen people rave about for years and I know that we used to be able to but the brand here but I don't think we can now, so I had to snap it up while I had the chance!

I actually thought that I hadn't bought an awful lot but seeing it all laid out and writing it all down, I realise that I actually have quite the haul so I don't need to buy anything else for a while! I had been pretty good with my spending in the months prior to the holiday and I will go back to those ways again unless I run out of a product!

Have you tried any of these products? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
