Hello Honey! Bee Yü skincare review & giveaway!

I'm very excited about today's post because not only am I talking about skincare (my favourite topic!) but I also have a giveaway for you! I love when I get the opportunity to give one of you the amazing products that I am talking about so that you can experience them for yourself. The brand in question is Bee Yü, which hails from New Zealand and if you hadn't guessed from their name and the title of this post, their products contain Manuka Honey and ethically sourced bee venom. Both of these ingredients are really effective in firming, repairing and soothing the skin so I was very excited to be given the opportunity to try the three products currently in their line up (and you have the opportunity to win all three, with a value of £240!).

I've spoken about products that contain bee venom on the blog before but if you are unfamiliar with why it is used in skincare products, here's the gist: when you are stung by a bee, it causes the blood to rise to the surface and the skin swells. By using smaller concentrations of (ethically sourced) bee venom in skincare products, it mimics the effect (without the sting) by stimulating collagen and elastin production. This in turn makes the skin look plump and feel firm. That's a basic explanation but you get the theory!

The products also contain manuka honey, which I have spoken about previously also. It has antimicrobial properties, helps healing, stimulates the immune system and, in medicine, is considered to be antibacterial (it is sometimes used on leg ulcers to help healing). Bee Yü uses 20+ UMF Manuka Honey, which denotes its purity level and that it is high on the ingredients list (at a percentage that will actually make a difference to the skin). Again, this is ethically sourced.

Obviously, if you have a bee allergy, these products will not be suitable for you.

I love the gold, sturdy packaging of the products - it's aesthetically pleasing, although not easy to photograph! Now on to the products themselves and then I'l tell you my experience with them.

Ultra-hydrating Day Creme: This contains the afore-mentioned manuka honey and bee venom, but it also contains a host of other moisturising ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, royal jelly, prickly pear seed oil, kiwi seed oil, jojoba oil, blackcurrant oil - to name a few. Although the texture is quite rich, it sinks into the skin like a lotion and doesn't leave any film. From the name, I expected it to be the perfect moisturiser for my dry and dehydrated skin but I actually find that I need to add a drop of oil to it to fully nourish my skin. Keep in mind that my skin is super dry so I think that normal, combination, dehydrated and lightly dry skin will find it moisturising enough but my skin is like the Sahara. I often have to add some oil to my moisturisers so this isn't too alarming to me.

Intensive Night Creme: Again, this contains the staple ingredients in addition to prickly pear seed oil, goji seed oil, jojoba oil, safflower oil, hyaluronic acid and cupuacu butter among others. The texture is richer than the day cream, as you'd expect with a night cream, particularly one with 'intensive' in its name. That being said, it does absorb without leaving a greasy film and it instantly feels soothing and hydrating on the skin.

Regenerating Face Masque: I've saved the very best for last! Again, this contains bee venom and manuka honey, but it also contains swertia chirata, which helps to regenerate the skin. Some people may experience tingling with this mask but because my skin is very used to actives, I didn't experience that. It is applied after cleansing and can either be left on the skin for 5-10 minutes (5 if you are new to actives) or, for a more intensive treatment, it can be left on overnight, which is my personal preference.

Like I said, the day cream isn't quite rich enough for my super dry skin, but with a drop of oil, my skin was comfortable and looked bright. I like it but personally won't repurchase because I have other moisturisers better suited to my skin. On the other hand, the night cream is a hit for me. It's rich and nourishing and leaves my skin looking radiant, feeling smooth and it is plump and bouncy. Not many products see me wake up with skin that is still comfortable and not at all tight, but this cream does. My husband even commented last week on holiday that my skin looked really youthful (could have been the cocktails talking but I'll take it anyway!). My mother has also commented that my skin looks nice and glowy and asked what I was using (she always wants to know my latest products!). I myself feel that my skin is bouncy and plump, which is what I aim for. I've also not had any breakouts since I started using these products. The mask is a real treat for textured skin, especially if left on overnight. I wake to smoother and softer skin every time I use it. What I love about these products is that despite being active, they don't irritate my reactive skin. If anything, they feel soothing and my skin doesn't look red or feel inflamed when I use them (which has been daily).  Overall, my skin feels comfortable, looks calm and even and is plump - I can't really ask for more!
