Dermalogica Phyto-Nature Firming Serum

Dermalogica Phyto-Nature Firming Serum review

As a huge fan of Dermalogica, I am always excited by their new releases but especially when it's a serum. When it comes to skincare, I'm a big believer in investing in serums more than any other product as they penetrate the skin more deeply than any moisturiser will and will work harder than other products in your routine. Bare that in mind when reading this review as the Phyto-Nature Firming Serum is pricey!

I love that the serum is housed in a sealed tube and has a pump as this will ensure that the product will stay fresh - very important at this price point! This is a dual-phase serum, which works best when applied to damp skin. I cleanse, exfoliate and mist before dispensing two pumps into my hands and mixing before patting and pressing into my skin. I use it in the under eye area and down my neck too and then follow with moisturiser. It can be used both morning and night.

The ingredient list is pretty impressive and includes Amazonian Camu Camu, which is a powerful anti-oxidant and contains 60 times more vitamin C than an orange. This alone will brighten and firm the skin. It also contains Moroccan Rock Rose Extract, which is another anti-oxidant that protects against damage from free radicals but also soothes the skin. Alongside those, is Madagascar Green Coffee Bean, which is rich in fatty acids than nourish the skin and also strengthen the barrier function of the skin. It also contains hyaluronic acid, which plumps the skin and biomimetic peptides, which firm the skin.

Results can be seen and felt quite quickly - initial results that is. After one application, skin feels tighter (we might have another Spanx for your face contender here!) and looks luminous but it's with continued use that true results can be seen. I personally have not been using this on a daily basis since receiving it in August as it contains shea butter, which my skin usually hates, so I have introduced it to my routine as part of serums on rotation.

Once you pass the age of 30, you will notice that skin is less bouncy and a little slacker - it doesn't happen overnight, it's more of a gradual thing. This is why active serums and firming products are important (plus facial massage) - the right products will help to form and tighten skin, especially around the jawline (which this serum definitely helps). I have noticed that my naso-labial folds are less visible since I started using this and my neck is looking firmer too. It has also performed well in the eye area (I still use eye cream over it) with lines much less noticeable.

If you are starting to notice that your skin is less firm, this is a product worth investing in as you can use it from décolletage to forehead, including the eye area so it will save buying three separate serums. Not only will it firm skin but it will also add luminosity, which makes skin look more youthful. It's undoubtedly expensive but a little goes a long way, it has an impressive ingredients list and it actually works!

Available from Dermalogica, Look Fantastic, John Lewis and salons worldwide.
