New to or nervous about retinol? Try Oskia Retinoid Sleep Serum Level 1

Oskia Retinoid Sleep Serum Level 1 Review

Retinol really is a wonder ingredient in skincare and I noticed a huge difference in my skin when I introduced it into my regime, in terms of texture and visibility of fine lines.  I recommend it to so many people and some wince as they just have visions of their face falling off (a bit extreme but you know what I mean!) but I do understand the hesitation. My advice is always to start gently, especially if you have sensitive/reactive skin and the perfect introductory product is Oskia Retinoid Sleep Serum Level 1 - 0.2%, which I want to share my thoughts on today.

If you want to know a little bit more about Oskia, read my brand focus post here. A lot more products have been released since I wrote that post, the most recent being the new Retinoid Sleep Serums, which are available in two levels, which offer different strengths. Newbies should start with level one and seasoned retinol users can go straight to level 2. Both serums contain Oskia's Super-Nutrient Retinoid Complex, which is comprised of Retinoid, Vitamins C + E and Pro-Vitamin D3.  Also included are anti-oxidants, cellular nutrients and botanical actives. I appreciate that the bottle is dark, which protects the ingredients.

Vitamin C brightens and firms the skin, Vitamin E nourishes as well as protecting against free radicals, Vitamin D repairs the skin while retinol offers anti-ageing benefits. Combined, this is a powerful and hard-working serum however it isn't harsh at all.  It contains turmeric, which is an anti-inflammatory and Omega 3, which also soothes the skin, which is why I think this is the perfect retinol starter product.

It has a light, silky texture - it feels like a dry oil, yet without any of the heaviness often associated with oils. It absorbs quickly and is a pleasure to massage into the skin. I apply around 3 drops to clean, dry skin and I like to take my time to massage it into my skin before following with moisturiser. I have to mention that it really doesn't smell great upon initial application (almost like wet clothes that have been left in the machine for too long), however the scent dissipates so don't let this put you off.  It layers well with other products without any pilling (in my experience).

What I absolutely love about this serum is that every single time I use it, I wake to super soft and plump skin the next morning. Now if you are a regular reader, you will know that my skin is super dry (exacerbated by illness) and I work hard to keep my skin looking its best and expect my products to work hard too, but waking it soft skin is no easy task. I have been using it a few times a week for around 7/8 weeks now and in that time, I have not experienced any breakouts (I don't have blemish-prone skin but hormonal breakouts are no stranger).

Overall, I am really enjoying this addition to my routine and am keen to try Level 2 when I finish this bottle (which will take months as I don't need to use a lot each time). If you are hesitant about trying retinols, this really would be a great starter product. If you can get a sample to test your skin for reactions, that would be great but remember that overall benefits will take weeks to be seen.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this product? Available from Cult Beauty.
