It's no secret on the blog that I have dry skin! I also find that it can be dehydrated at times, particularly in winter when the central heating and open fire seem to drain all hydration from my skin. I work hard on my skincare routine to keep my skin nourished and looking plump and I think that's key to any makeup looking good. That said, there are some products that I rely on when my makeup needs a little extra help in looking good and I want to share those with you today...
Armani Luminous Silk Hydrating Primer: Not everybody likes to use a primer - I personally do but I don't think it's absolutely necessary. That being said, because my skin is so dry, I don't feel that my foundation sits well without a hydrating primer and this one is excellent. It's lightweight yet very nourishing and gives the skin a lit from within look without looking like a discoball! Foundation applies beautifully over it with the result being plump, juicy looking skin Use my code BEAUTYLYMIN at checkout on Look Fantastic to save up to 21%.
Armani Luminous Silk Foundation: I don't have the new reformulated version of this yet but all reports so far are hyping it up, so when I finish this bottle, I'll buy the new version. This foundation has been a staple in my collection for around 18 years! I always have a bottle to hand and if you have dry skin, I recommend that you do too. It's lightweight, buildable, blurring, doesn't settle into fine lines, has great longevity and looks like your skin, but on a very good skin day. What's not to love? Makeup by Mario Surreal Skin Awakening Concealer: Those of us with dry skin will know how difficult it is to get the coverage we want without the heavy texture, which leads to fine lines being exaggerated and concealer creasing. If this sounds familiar, this is the concealer for you! I love the texture - it's super lightweight but it gives great coverage. I have found that my dark circles have gotten worse over the years, but just two dots of this, on the inner and outer eye, and my dark circles are banished! Love it!
Natasha Denona Hy-Sculpt Liquid Bronzer: With dry skin, cream and liquid products look most natural and work best for a non-cakey finish. I have several cream bronzers but this liquid one looks most natural and the serum-like formula means that it blends so easily and seamlessly into the skin. It's buildable and so easy to use. 10/10. Westman Atelier Contour Stick: To add some definition, I have always found that cream contour products work best as they are more subtle and more likely to look natural. If you love a very sculpted look, you do you but as we age I find that less is more. This contour stick has a beautiful, creamy texture that blends into the skin easily, doesn't look patchy and gives some natural definition to the face.
Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand: I love a liquid or cream blush and I have several of these beauty light wands, but there are many more affordable versions out there. These blushes really add life to the face - they make cheeks look plump and juicy and these particular beauty wands also contain a little highlight. Dry skin can tend to be dull and look flat but using a liquid blush takes it from drab to fab.
Rodial Glass Highlighter: I've always loved a touch of highlighter and these Rodial ones are my favourites because they don't have the discoball effect. They give the skin a natural, lit from within look and are so easy to use. Use my code BEAUTYLYMIN at checkout on Look Fantastic to save up to 21%.
Rodial Glass Powder: I've never been the biggest fan of powders because most just cake on my skin and settle into fine lines, making everything look worse! This powder works wonders because it blurs the appearance of fine lines and pores, sets makeup for a polished look and doesn't dry the skin out. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush: If I'm using a powder blush, more often than not it will be an Hourglass one. I love the marbled blushes because they have some highlight intertwined so they don't look flat, cakey or dry on the skin.
Hourglass Veil Soft Focus Setting Spray: To finish the base, a setting spray works really well and this one is perfect for dry skin because although it sets makeup in place, it doesn't dry the skin out like so many others do. This not only sets makeup but it also has a blurring effect so all of the products mesh together for a natural look that lasts.
I'd love to hear what base products you use when your skin is feeling extra dry? Do you switch things up during the colder months?
