NARS Light Reflecting Foundation Review

NARS Light Reflecting Foundation Review

It's a few years since I bought a foundation from Nars. I used to wear Sheer Glow a lot (although I never understood the name, as it's neither sheer nor glowy!), and I really liked their Natural Radiant Long Wear Foundation, so when I heard about their new Light Reflecting Foundation, I decided to give it a whirl.

The claims spoke to me! Medium coverage, breathable, natural finish, diffuses light to smooth the look of skin and blur imperfections, plus helps to strengthen the skin's barrier and maintain moisture. A skincare-makeup hybrid. Sounds pretty incredible, right? But, does it live up to its claims?

First off, I love that this has a pump, and the bottle in small and slimline. There are 36 shades available, and I chose Punjab, as that's what I always bought in Sheer Glow, and thankfully, it's the perfect shade (I know that some brands tweak the shades in different foundations sometimes). The directions say to use your fingers to apply, and blend, the foundation, starting at the centre of your face. I have found that applying in segments works better than just dotting all over the face, and then blending. It works well when applied with fingers, but also with my favourite brush (Scott Barnes Flawless Face Brush - use the code LYMIN to save 20% on Look Fantastic).

The first thing that I noticed about this foundation upon application, was the blurring effect. It really does give the skin a diffused look - everything looks softer, filtered almost! It also doesn't cling to dry patches, and although the coverage is medium, it looks natural and is buildable, in areas where I need a little extra coverage. It's very lightweight - I can't feel it on my skin, even after a good 8/9 hours, when some foundations can feel a little tighter, this doesn't. The finish is very natural - neither matte, nor luminous, just healthy looking skin, so if you're thinking that Light Reflecting might mean glowy, that's not the case, however skin does look radiant.

If you're looking for a new foundation, that has buildable coverage, but doesn't feel like you're wearing anything, one which also blurs texture, lines and pores, isn't crazy expensive, and is long-wearing, then this is for you. My review is based on how it has worked on my dry skin. I think that those with oily skin might enjoy it with a gripping primer, but I am curious to read the opinions of those with other skin types, so if that's you, please tell me your thoughts below.

Does this sound like your kind of base? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
