I've been using Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant for 23 years!

Cult skincare product: I've used Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant for 23 years!

I first used Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant in 2003. It really was the must have product back in the day with promises of clear, smooth and soft skin - who doesn't want that? There aren't many skincare products that I am still using 23 years later but this product works regardless of age. Let me tell you why it still has a place in my regime...

Physical exfoliants make a lot of people squirm because they think of St. Ives Apricot scrub that people used back in the day that was rough in texture and stripped the skin! Fear not because not all physical exfoliants are made the same! Daily Microfoliant is a rice based powder to foam exfoliant, which (as the name suggests) is gentle enough for daily use although I would suggest building up to daily use if you have very sensitive skin.

This powder exfoliant contains Papain (an enzyme from Papaya Fruit), Salicylic Acid (helps to unclog pores), Phytic Acid (provides gentle exfoliation) and Oatmeal (which helps to calm the skin). It might sound potent but whilst it is effective, it's also very gentle.

To use it, you dispense a small amount of the powder into your hands and add water to form a foam and then massage into the skin for around a minute, before rinsing. It can also be mixed with a water based cleanser if you want an even gentler scrub.

Although I tend to favour chemical exfoliants these days, I always have a bottle of Daily Microfoliant in my stash because sometimes I just love the instant smooth feeling that I get with this product. I particularly love it on warmer days when I have reapplied SPF several times, am wearing makeup and let's be honest, feel sweaty! You can't beat the clean feeling from using this product. I love how soft and smooth my skin feels when I use Daily Microfoliant and it also looks polished and glowy. It doesn't compromise the skin barrier and skin doesn't feel at all stripped. I also find that any subsequent products apply beautifully and if I decide to wear makeup, base products glide on as there are no dry patches to cling to.

This is a product that will probably be on rotation in my skincare regime for the next 23 years! My husband (who has eczema) is now converted to this and uses it a few times a week and he's usually not great with being consistent with 'extra' products (as in anything other than face wash and moisturiser).
