Parfums De Marly Delina VS Delina Exclusif and Parfums De Marly Valaya VS Valaya Exclusif

Parfums De Marly Delina VS Delina Exclusif, Parfums De Marly Valaya VS Valaya Exclusif

I really do love fragrance and have done for as long as I can remember. I like so many different types of scent - fresh/fruity/masculine/citrus/aquatic/floral/oud/musky/powdery/vanilla and more. I choose what fragrance I wear on any particular day based on the season, the weather, my mood, what I'm doing that day, what clothes I'm wearing, how I'm feeling - a combination of these things. I have never had a signature scent but if I could only wear one fragrance for the rest of my days, I think it would be Parfums De Marly Delina. I absolutely adore this fragrance and have repurchased every time I've finished a bottle since I first received it for my birthday three years ago and it has been my most worn fragrance in those three years and my most complimented fragrance of all time (I have both men and women comment on it and ask my the name of it in shops, restaurants, cafes, hair salon and even my dentist!). Because I loved it so much, I wanted to try another scent from the brand so I tried Valaya and love that too (two very different fragrances). More recently, I have purchased the Exclusif versions of these fragrances and want to share my thoughts on them today.

First of all I have to mention the beautiful bottles that house these fragrances - I love the candy pink of Delina and frosted glass of Valaya, I also love the design of a beautiful ornate window frame on the bottles, the detailing on the lid and the tassles! They're pretty unique and feel special.

Delina is a fragrance that on paper, I may have thought would be too sweet for me - notes of lychee, rose, peony, rhubarb, rose and vetiver among others - it sounds like a heady mix! I promise you that the notes blend so beautifully and whilst it is fruity and floral, it really does stay on the right side of too sweet. It isn't at all cloying or overpowering. It lasts really well on the skin and on clothes, I can smell it the next day or even days later in the case of a scarf.

Delina Exclusif shares a lot of the same notes as the original, however it also includes notes of pear, grapefruit and vanilla, which give it a creamier finish in terms of scent. I find that the dry down on me is both creamy and powdery and it feels comforting and feminine. I would probably choose this for an evening fragrance and Delina as a day scent but realistically, both work well at any time of the day or night. It lasts a good 8-10 hours on me, so this is not one that you need to take with you on an evening out or day event, to top up.

Valaya couldn't be more different from Delina! It smells clean and crisp, with notes of bergamot, mandarin, orange blossom, white flowers, musk and vanilla among others. Initially, I think it smells of clean linen but most fragrances of that type are quite warm whereas this one is fresh on opening and then dries down to a warmer base. It's suitable for wear in all seasons and like Delina, last for hours and hours on the skin and longer on clothes.

Valaya Exclusif has similar notes but with the inclusion of almond and sandalwood, which lend it to being both warmer but also more powdery than the original. If you like a clean fragrance but want something with a twist (and that doesn't smell like laundry detergent!), you will love Valaya Exclusif. I would definitely lean more towards this in the evening, particularly in spring/summer but honestly, clean and powdery (without being too sharp) is suitable all year round!

Parfums De Marly fragrances are expensive so I wouldn't recommend blind buying, but I would recommend trying a discovery set, which includes seven of their fragrances.
