I've been a fan of the Valentino Beauty Born In Roma line for years so I was delighted when I was kindly gifted the latest addition recently. Born In Roma Purple Melancholia* is housed in the signature studded bottle and one of the things I really like about the line is how you can see the colour of the fragrance through the bottle; from the original pink, through green, yellow, coral and now purple. They all have scents for him and her (Uomo and Donna) and the ones aimed at women all have a vanilla base note but the top and middle notes are what differentiates them.
Born In Roma Melancholia* is what I would describe as a sweet (but not too sweet), sparkling but warm scent. The top note is plum with a middle note of osmanthus, which softens the plum, and a base of vanilla, which gives warmth. It's the perfect balance of notes for a sensual and sophisticated scent that lingers for hours and will catch the attention of others.
The sweet, fruity scent that opens is what captures attention initially and then it dries down to a creamy, musky scent that lasts for hours. It's strong without being cloying and due to its depth, I would recommend it more for evening wear than daytime, but that's just personal preference. It's certainly a scent that can be worn all year round and whilst it's sweet and also floral, I wouldn't describe it as girly - it's far too mature and sensual to be girly.
A brilliant addition to the Born In Roma line and one for those who don't mind standing out and being asked what they're wearing! Fragrances should make you feel something and this one will make you feel confident and sexy!
I've used a third of the bottle in a month but it's so addictive and I just can't get enough of it!
