The only products to survive the ultimate makeup cull.....

The only products to survive the ultimate makeup cull, Reducing my makeup collection by 80%

In recent months, I have found myself caught between being quite bored and also overwhelmed with my makeup collection. I am debating having a massive declutter and just keeping my very favourite products or treating myself to a small number of new ones so that I have a capsule collection that I love (well as capsule as it gets for a makeup lover!). I'm sure that I'm not the first person to feel this way, nor will I be the last. Our taste changes over time, makeup style changes, plus as we age, less is definitely more. Here are the products that I have put into a makeup bag to use regularly and I will see if I miss anything else from my collection over the coming months and if I don't, my friends will be very happy! Read on to see what products will survive the ultimate makeup cull!

Complexion products: The obvious choice here for me is Armani Luminous Silk because it's my most repurchased foundation but recently I have been loving Patrick Ta Major Skin Hydra-Luxe Luminous Skin Perfecting Foundation. I also can't part with my beloved Dior Forever Skin Perfecting Foundation Stick (review here) and I need to keep a skin tint, which is Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint. Hardly a minimal collection by most standards but it is for me! I'm still obsessed with Clarins Beauty Flash Balm and Vieve Super Skin Nova as primers. In terms of concealer, my most reached for is Natasha Denona Hy-Glam concealer, which is perfect for my dry skin as it offers coverage without heaviness or creasing.

Bronzer/blush: I'm keeping both cream/liquid and powder versions of both as I genuinely love and use them. For liquid/cream blush, it has to be Rare Beauty Effortless Bronzer Effortless Bronzer Stick and Natasha Denona Hy-Glam Liquid Bronzer. Both are super blendable and offer a naturally bronzed look. My powder bronzer choice is Armani Luminous Silk Bronzer. It's just so easy to blend into the skin and is so finely milled that it's undetectable on the skin. For liquid blush, my go-to is Armani Luminous Silk Cheek Tint but I'm also keeping Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand in the shade Pinkgasm, for shade variety. I'm cheating with my powder blush and choosing to keep an Hourglass blush trio. I also love using a cream contour, so Westman Atelier it is!

Eyeshadow: In terms of palettes, I can't be parted from my Natasha Denona palettes and I also can't let my Makeup by Mario Neutrals palette go as I use it so often! I also adore Victoria Beckham Beauty Lid Lustres. I'm hardly a minimalist here but I don't care, I love eyeshadow!

Brows/liner/mascara: I'm yet to find my 'perfect' brow products but I love the Refy Eyebrow Pencil, Kosas Air Brow and Patrick Ta Brow Lamination Gel. I adore Victoria Beckham Beauty Satin Kajal Eye Liners and for liquid, it has to be Natasha Denona Macro Blade Liquid Liner. For mascara, it has to be YSL Lash Clash because it really gives me the volume I love!

Lip products: All bets are off here but ultimately, my favourite lip pencils are from MAC so I'm keeping a variety of pinky/beige/nude shades. For lipstick, I have a variety of pinky nudes and some glosses/oils that I love. It would be silly and disingenuous of me to say I'm just keeping a few because I really like variety have so many that I love and use regularly and the key to this whole cull is to figure out what I use most often.

In no way am I saying that this is a minimal collection but it's certainly only a small percentage of all makeup that I own (I have an plenty of Muji drawers and two IKEA Alex Units of makeup for an idea of what I was working with!). I have binned products that were probably out of date, which has also helped to reduce the size of collection. I'm curious to see how I get on with these products and whether I will find myself reaching for some of the ones that I have put to one side ( I have a feeling that some will sneak back in, particularly if I finish a product and have one that I enjoy using in the stash!). I'll probably wait until next Spring before I make a final decision on the products that have been put to one side and then it will be a free for all for my friends for any products that don't creep back in!

The new (to me) brands on my radar (or ones I want to try new products from) are Merit, Makeup by Mario, Vieve, Ilia, Lisa Eldridge and Hildun Beauty. I'd love to hear any product recommendations!

What would survive your makeup cull? I'd love to hear!
