Phlur is a brand that exploded onto the fragrance world in the last few years despite it being founded over a decade ago, this is thanks to Chriselle Lim (U.S. Influencer and Content Creator) becoming Creative Director. Their tagline is that they create 'modern fragrance for every desire, mood and moment' and I must be very moody because I love (and own) a wide variety of fragrances, which change with the season, how I'm feeling and how I want to feel! They have a number of fragrances in their lineup with eau de parfums, body oils and hand creams among the range (hoping for candles soon!). I already own a full size of Missing Person and to buy some more so I thought that the Discovery Set was a good place to start to help me decide.
There are 8 x 2ml vials in the set, which is enough for me to know if I will like a fragrance straight off the bat, but I can also test longevity. I also like that because they're so tiny, I can pop them in my handbag for top ups.
The fragrances in the set are as follows:
Golden Rule: On paper, I should love this - notes of pear, mandarin, coconut milk, jasmine, vanilla and sandalwood among others. I find it too cloying and heady. It's quite intense and doesn't dry down to a lighter scent on my skin. It's a pass for me but remember that fragrance is very personal so it doesn't mean others won't love it!
Strawberry Letter: As you would imagine, it is sweet and fruity. To me, it reminds me of berry body sprays I might have worn as a tween! It's not for me but I know that my sister loves it because she like sweet, berry scents.
Rose Whip: A beautiful rose scent that doesn't smell synthetic or like the rose scent that some people associate with their grandmothers! It contains notes of musk and amber, which balance with the rose, blackcurrant and pink pepper beautifully.
Father Figure: One of the best known fragrances from the brand, this is light, airy and yet woody at the same time. It contains notes of fig, water lily, iris, vanilla and sandalwood among others. It's one that would make me want to lean in closer to smell if someone else was wearing it, and when I wear it, I feel clean and cosy at the same time. I will definitely be buying a full size.
Mood Ring: There is too much going on in this fragrance to make me want to wear it. It's fruity, sweet, musky and a little too cloying for my taste. It has fruity and floral notes on a musky, amber base and the overall result borders on a headache for me.
Soft Spot: An oriental fragrance with notes of freesia, bergamot, water lily, vanilla orchid, musk amber and sandalwood. It smells comforting, like a hug, but not too warm - just the perfect balance. If you want a lighter version of Armani Si, you'll enjoy this!
Missing Person: Lightly floral and musky, this is perfect for everyday wear all year round. It has notes of musk, jasmine, neroli, orange blossom and sandalwood among others. It's a soft, cosy scent that is so easy to wear.
Vanilla Skin: You don't need to be Einstein to work out that this is a vanilla fragrance but it's not sickly sweet because it also contains notes of pink pepper, apple, lily and sandalwood among others. It's a mature vanilla scent that smells creamy but not overbearing.
I'm glad that I bought this set and I know that they brand has further scents to offer but I would always try to get a sample before buying full size. Do you enjoy Phlur fragrances? I'd love to hear your favourites!
