Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant VS Daily Superfoliant

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant VS Daily Superfoliant

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant was the first product I ever tried from the brand, around 17 years ago! At the time it was probably the most popular skincare product on the market, with so many celebrities swearing by it. It's a product that I still repurchase to this day and still has that same cult status. When Daily Superfoliant was released, I wondered what the difference could be - I really was curious as to how they could improve on the original but the thing is, they have different aims. They are similar as in they are powder exfoliants but they are also different enough to justify both products being in the Dermalogica lineup (or, indeed, in your skincare cabinet!).

Daily Microfoliant: The original powder exfoliator, often copied but never equalled.  This is a rice based exfoliator, which contains salicylic acid, papain, rice enzymes, white tea, licorice, colloidal oatmeal and allantoin. Its aim is to deliver bright, smooth skin by gently exfoliating. The inclusion of colloidal oatmeal and allantoin ensures that skin is calm and soothed, whilst also being exfoliated. This means that the product is suitable for daily use (if the name didn't already give it away!). A small amount is poured into wet hands, which you then make into a paste before applying to the skin and massaging in circular motions for around a minute. I like to really concentrate on areas that are dry or congested, before rinsing. It doesn't leave the skin feeling stripped but it definitely gives a polished look to the skin. It is used after cleansing and followed with a mist, serum, eye cream and moisturiser.

Daily Superfoliant: Again, this is a powder formula and it is applied in the same way, however this is a much more powerful exfoliator. It contains AHAs to exfoliate the skin, activated binchotan charcoal to deeply cleanse the skin and niacinamide, red algae and tara fruit extract to help protect against environmental aggressors. Because this is more powerful, those with very sensitive skin may want restrict use to twice weekly or to mix a little with their cleanser to dilute it a little.  Also, if you have both of these exfoliants, you can alternate them depending on what your skin needs each day or to build up tolerance to Superfoliant. Because my skin is quite reactive, I am currently using Superfoliant every second day and my skin is loving it. The result is smooth, radiant and clear skin.

Which should you buy? It depends on your skin type and concerns. Daily Microfoliant will suit all skin types and give a gentle exfoliation. Superfoliant (in my opinion) is better suited ageing skin or for those who work in cities where they are subjected to pollution. If your skin veers more towards sensitive than non-reactive, I would recommend using Microfoliant as it's less intense but still effective in terms of exfoliation. The products are an easy way to make sure your skin is exfoliated regularly as they aren't very time consuming and are easy to use as part of your daily routine.

Have you tried either or both of these? Which did you prefer?

All products are bought by me, unless otherwise stated. Superfoliant was kindly gifted to me as part of their #skinfluencer programme, but I bought the Daily Mircofoliant myself. Opinion is always my own. Affiliate links may be used.
