Who remembers Charlotte Tilbury's previous loose setting powder? I think it was called Genius Magic Powder and I remember that it absolutely stank and yet nobody seemed to mention the damp, musty smell it had! I don't actually remember it being discontinued and only thought about it when the new Airbrush Flawless Loose Powder was announced. Despite the horrible smell, it performed well as a setting powder so I was curious to see how the new powder would perform and despite not actually needing a new setting powder, I went ahead and bought it anyway! Let me share my thoughts with you...
As with all Charlotte Tilbury products, the packaging is beautiful with the CT logo that is on all of the Airbrush products. Inside the lid is a heart shaped powder puff and then beneath that is the powder itself with a fine mesh covering. There are seven shades available - one translucent, two brightening shades and four according to skin tones. I thought that fair/medium would be too pale for me so I went for medium/tan as I use medium in the pressed powder from the brand.
The dinky puff is cute and pretty handy but I can imagine after a while that I might prefer to use a separate, larger puff. This size is perfect if you like to set your under eye area.
The powder itself is very finely milled and whilst I wouldn't say that it adds coverage, it does really set makeup in place and it gives the skin a blurred and smooth appearance. I have dry skin and very few setting powders impress me but this one certainly does. It doesn't settle in fine lines or exaggerate them, it doesn't cling to dry patches and it gives the skin a very polished look but without looking flat. Makeup will.not.budge with this powder on top!
I would love if the brightening shades were available in smaller sizes as I think a lot of people might like to have a brightening powder for the under eye area but want a translucent for the rest of the face.
Do you need this and the pressed powder? They do different things - the pressed powder is a finishing powder whereas this one is a classic setting powder. This is also too big to take with you on a night out, although I really doubt that it would need to be topped up. That being said, I have dry skin maybe those who have oily skin would like to use a pressed powder for top ups.
As much as I am not a fan of all of the claims that come with Charlotte Tilbury products, there's no doubt that the brand makes great quality and effective products with this powder being the latest. It lives up to the hype!
