Byredo Bal D'Afrique - the perfect unisex fragrance

When it comes to fragrance, I love a very diverse range of scents. I don't have a signature scent despite think that having one is really chic. I love so many fragrance types - sweet, floral,woody, aquatic, musky, powdery, vanilla, citrus, oud and more. I also love fragrances that lean masculine in their notes but until now I've never really considered that both my husband and I could wear (and love) the same fragrance. I thought that Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 might be a good choice for both of us but fortunately it doesn't smell as good on him so I don't need to prise the bottle from his hands. One that I do think smells good on both of us is Byredo Bal D'Afrique...

This is a fragrance that manages to be both warm and fresh with notes of bergamot, African marigold, blackcurrant on a base of cedarwood and vetiver combined with amber, musk and tonka bean. It's a comforting fragrance, suitable for year round wear and would be more suited to day than night-time wear, although that's just my preference.  It's quite light in terms of intensity but not so subtle that it would go unnoticed ( although their is an Absolu version available, which I'm assuming is more intense). It's one of those fragrances that I feel is intimate without being sensual - it feels like one that would make you want to get closer to your partner's neck for a second sniff.

Although there are some floral and fruity notes, it doesn't smell overly feminine because of the balance of the notes although the blackcurrant carries well to give it some sharpness but overall it's a soft and elegant fragrance.

In terms of longevity, I find that it will need to be reapplied after around four hours although it lasts longer on clothes. The body mist is perfect for extending the wear time of the scent and you can be more liberal with that because it's less expensive for more product. 

This truly is a unisex fragrance that will suit everyone except those who like gourmand or very intense fragrances but would you be prepare to share?
