Products for angry, irritated skin days

Products for angry, irritated skin days

No matter how well we take care of our skin, we all get angry or irritated skin days. Sometimes it can be from overdoing the acids/retinol, sometimes a reaction to medication, sometimes from having a cold and blowing your nose so much, other times it's a new product that you've introduced to your routine - there are so many reasons why our skin can react. For me, the biggest culprits tend to be shea butter in a product, dairy or crisps in my diet, sometimes medication and sometimes using too many acid products. When this happens, I tend to take my routine back to basics and I have some products that I rely on to get my skin back to its normal state.

When my skin is angry or irritated, the first thing I do is stop using acid or retinol products - this is a must.  I then keep my routine as simple as possible - basic really is the way to go! Obviously, I don't use all of these products at once - it depends on the type and cause of the irritation.

Bee Good Honey & Propolis 2-in-1 Cream Cleanser: A calming cleanser is a must when skin is angry and irritated.  This particular cleanser combines honey and propolis, both of which aid healing and reduction in inflammation. These ingredients are harvested from bees, without causing any harm to them. It also contains crambe oil and rapeseed oil, which nourish, soften and protect the skin. It has a rich creamy texture and is massaged into dry skin, before removing with a wet muslin cloth (provided in the box). It is calming on the skin and cleanses without stripping or irritating the skin. It also doesn't leave any residue so I think it would be suitable for all skin types. You can save £5 on orders over £15 on the Bee Good site by using the code F19Y1T - this is not an affiliate link.

Pixi Rose Tonic: This soothes, balances and hydrates the skin and is very gentle so it's ideal to use if skin is red and irritated. Rather than applying with cotton wool, pat a few drops into the skin for a gentle application.

Omorovicza Queen Of Hungary Mist: This is the brand that I always turn to when my skin is really upset because it always soothes and calms my skin. All of the products contain their patented Healing Concentrate, which instantly soothes the skin. This mist can be used as part of your skincare routine or throughout the day when skin is feeling particularly irritated.

Caudalie Grape Water: A cheaper, but no less effective, option, this mist is made from 100% natural organic grapes and it will soothe angry skin upon application. Again, it can be liberally reapplied throughout the day.

Omorovicza Omoeressence: If your skin is tight, inflamed and itchy, this essence will soothe, hydrate, plump and reduce inflammation. It's also ideal if your skin is stressed as it also contains their patented Healing Concentrate. Pat a few drops into your skin after cleansing to balance and hydrate the skin and leave it for 1-2 minutes before proceeding with the rest of your skincare routine. If skin is feeling parched as well as irritated, it's important to layer light products so combining this with one of the previous mists is an ideal way to get some hydration back into the skin.

Zelens Power D: Is it a serum or an oil? Neither and both! It's a powerhouse of ingredients that combine to repair and protect the skin's barrier and can be used before serum or over moisturiser, in the latter case, it will lock in lipids, while protecting against environmental aggressors. This instantly soothes the skin, while nourishing it and replacing lost moisture thereby increasing elasticity and suppleness.

Alpha-H Vitamin B: This contains niacinamide (which boosts barrier function), copper tripeptide (which encourages collagen production) and chia seed (a powerful antioxidant which protects against damage from free radicals) among other ingredients. This reduces the appearance of redness and acts like a chill pill for the skin - perfect at times of irritation.

Alpha-H Essential Hydration Concentrate: This contains nine plant oils, which combine to nurture and nourish the skin. It instantly de-stresses parched skin and is the perfect product to use for skin that is reacting to seasonal weather changes. My skin particularly loves it during the colder months but equally, if my skin feels parched after a sun holiday, this is my go-to product.

La Roche Posay Toleriane Sensitive: The perfect moisturiser for sensitive, inflamed or irritated skin. This combines ceramides, glycerin and Vitamin B3 with thermal water and other soothing ingredients to calm, heal and repair the skin's barrier.

Sarah Chapman Skinesis 3D Moisture Infusion Sheet Mask: The ultimate treat for stressed, irritated, parched skin. This is no ordinary sheet mask - it is, without doubt, the most hydrating and plumping sheet mask that I have used. It instantly soothes the skin, reducing redness and inflammation and it drenches the skin thanks to the pentavitin, hyaluronic acid and rosewater. Deep and long-lasting hydration is provided with this mask. Ideal for jet-lagged, parched, angry, reactive, tight, red, sore skin!
