Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse

Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse Review

I love a good fake tan and apply it on a weekly basis throughout the year and have done for a good 20 years - #tanthursday is definitely a thing in my house!  I used to be very loyal to St Tropez, then I moved on to Xen Tan, which I used consistently for years (and still use) but in the last 1/2 years, I have enjoyed trying other brands (Bondi Sands, Loving Tan, NYK1 and more). I was recently sent a bottle of Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse and a mitt to try and I want to share my thoughts on it with you today.

Bali Body is a vegan, Australian brand. It first caught my attention when I spotted it all over Instagram with photos of very tanned ladies holding a bottle of their tanning oil. I have tried the oil but as a body moisturiser rather than a tanning product, and found it to be really nourishing. I have also used, and loved, their coconut lip balm. Although they are an Australian brand, they have a UK distribution centre and offer free UK shipping and they also deliver to Ireland if you order from the UK site.

Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse contains 100% natural DHA and no parabens. Due to this, the tan doesn't have that awful biscuit fake tan smell, in fact, it smells very fresh - lightly floral with a hint of citrus, when being applied and then the scent disappears. My husband even comments on how nice the smell is. Usually mousse formulas dry my skin out, which is why I used lotions for years but I haven't found that with the last few mousse formulas that I have used (this one included).

The key to an even tan is to exfoliate well first - it doesn't have to be an expensive scrub, just a pair of exfoliating gloves will do the trick. Then, it's best to apply moisturiser to knees, elbows, wrists, hands and ankles - all of the driest areas to prevent the tan from clinging and creating dark patches.

Thankfully, this tan has a guide colour (a green undertone to prevent looking tangoed), so I don't need to worry about streaks or patches because I can see exactly where I am applying it. The mitt really makes the whole job easy because it doesn't slip off my hand due to the fact that there is a section for my thumb, which gives a little grip. The texture is quite light so it applies easily and quickly. It also dries really quickly too, which is a real bonus because who likes standing around naked waiting for tan to dry?!

I always leave my tan on overnight - I just can't get my head around applying tan and then getting dressed and going out but maybe that's just me! This tan is labelled dark and I always choose 'dark' tans because if I go to the effort of applying tan, I want to see it and I want it to last. This isn't the darkest tan that I have ever used, it's probably medium-dark in my opinion, but it does give a really gorgeous, golden colour to the skin - not a hint of oompa loompa orange in sight! I also like that the tan fades evenly and I get a good five days out of it before I scrub any remnants in preparation for my next application.

Overall, I am very impressed by the Bali Body Tanning Mousse so if you're in the market for a new tan and want it to be cruelty free, non-drying and easy to apply, I recommend giving it a go!

Are you a regular fake tanner or do you keep it for special occasions? I'd love to hear!
