Did you know that National Smile Month runs from May 14th to June 14th? As the song goes 'You're never fully dressed without a smile' and for me, this is so true. A smile can cross so many barriers and will instantly endear me to a person. Just last week, I noticed a hen party in Dublin airport - they all looked amazing - immaculate hair and makeup, stunning clothes, preened to within an inch of their lives but not one of them had a smile on their face and it was the one thing that wouldn't cost them any time or money but would have made a huge difference! For me, a smile makes everyone much more attractive so when I was asked if I wanted to celebrate National Smile Month with Janina, I jumped at the chance!
I go to my dentist for a check up and scale & polish every six months because I once had an abscess on a tooth and I never want to go through that pain again! Prevention is better than cure, as they say. I have never been quite brave enough to have my teeth professionally whitened as they are quite sensitive, but a side effect of Rifampicin (a drug I took daily for 22 months) is staining of teeth so I like to use whitening products to try to remove the stains.
I have featured Janina products on the blog a number of times previously and what I really love about them is that they use natural ingredients to whiten the teeth so I don't need to worry about that sensitive, stinging sensation that accompanies a lot of whitening products. I have used these in the past and again 2 weeks ago on 5 consecutive days for 35 minutes per day. I place a tray on my upper teeth and lower teeth and leave them to do their thing (whilst praying that nobody comes to the door while I have them in!). Afterwards, I brush the excess off with my toothbrush and then rinse with water. They are ideal for removing surface staining from products such as red wine or curry! They're ideal for a quick fix for a special occasion as they really do life the teeth by a few shades!
On a daily basis, I use Janina Ultra White 24K Gold Toothpaste. This is the latest addition to the Janina range but I have used some of their other toothpastes previously and I like all of them. On their own, they aren't enough to whiten the teeth but they do help them to look a little brighter and this particular one helps to reduce gum inflammation due to the colloidal gold it contains.
