If there is one thing that Benefit does well, it's brow products! They have a variety of pencils, powders, gels and pomades to cater for all preferences. Recently, they launched their new Brow Zings Pro Palette and I was kindly sent two so I thought I'd review the one that I thought would suit me best and give the other one away to one of my lovely readers!
It's a long time since I used anything other than a brow pencil and gel in my brows so I was excited to try this palette but also a little nervous! It is available in two shades - Light/Medium and Medium/Deep. I chose the Light Medium as I don't like my brows to be any darker than my hair as I think they age me otherwise!
In the palette are four powders in a variety of shades, three waxes (one clear, one cool brown and one warm brown) and two double ended brushes. One brush is ideal for the powders and the other is perfect for the wax and has a spoolie on the other end. There is also a little 'tips & tricks' booklet with advice on how to achieve different brow looks.
Four powders may seem a little excessive but the idea is that you can mix and match them to achieve your perfect brow colour. Also, the shade you use in your arch might look at little harsh at the start of the brow. To achieve a long-lasting look, it's best to start by brushing the brows out, then apply the clear wax through them. For a natural/minimal makeup look, you can then fill in any gaps with a powder but I like a little more definition in my brows so I like to use a clear wax, then a little of the coloured wax and finish with a mix of the powders. It may sound like a lot of effort and product but the key is to use light strokes and not a lot of product each time. I know that big, bushy brows are in but that's just not my kind of look. If that's how you like to style your brows, you can achieve that with this palette too. It's pretty versatile! The powders are easy to work with and moderately pigmented, which I like as you can build them up. They are very finely milled but not too soft so they won't be spreading all over your face! The wax is also a nice texture - not too heavy so you don't feel like there is a lot of product in your brows but it also ensures that the powders stay in place. Overall, it's a winner and it's a really nice alternative to pencils. I love that the brushes are good quality and they fit easily into the compact. There's also a good sized mirror inside the lid so it's perfect for taking on holiday as you could do all of your eye makeup in it.
Is a brow palette a necessary purchase? It depends on how important your brows are to your overall look. Also, if you usually find that your brow products don't last, you will enjoy this as the staying power of the products is excellent. Overall, I am really enjoying using it and haven't reached for my pencil since receiving it.
